What Do I Get For a One Year Old Boy?

By Heather Bishara

For the first time in many years I have been invited to a baby shower. This not just any baby shower… it’s one for a friend who is adopting a baby so the baby will already be one year old by the time he arrives in his new home. All of this is really very exciting, but now I have a dilemma: what are the best toys out there for a one-year-old boy?

When my youngest son was one, I remember that he played with blocks, pull toys and animal figurines. But I have to say that I do not remember what brands were the best or which ones he liked the most. I’m just not one of those moms with a brilliant memory that way. So I need to do some research to jog my memory so, of course, I went to Kazoo Toys to find the best ideas!

Here’s what’s on my list:

IQ Squeeze Blocks by Small World Toys’ IQ Baby line

These little blocks are perfect for a one year old. They are so soft and squishy that if my new little friend decides to throw them, it won’t hurt anyone or anything around him. The colors are bright and the pictures are adorable. Plus it has ABCs and 123s on it. What could be better?

Dancing Alligator by Plan Toys

Boy do I wish I had a Dancing Alligator when my boys were little! Both of them loved pull toys and my youngest was (and still is!) obsessed with alligators. This toy would have provided lots of great entertainment for both of them. With its bright green color and click-clack rhythmic sounds, the Dancing Alligator is sure to be a hit.

Baby Farm Friends Bowling by Earlyears

Over the years we have received many bowling sets, but I have to say that this is the one that I remember best. In fact, my boys still love to run back and forth setting up the pins after they’ve thrown the soft bowling ball down their imaginary bowling lane. So while the game may be faster and little bit crazier, the fun is still the same. Definitely a great toy for a one-year-old boy!

Gertie Ball with Glitter by Small World Toys

In all the years that I have been a parent to a boy, I can say with honesty that a great ball can make everything better! The Gertie Ball is just this kind of ball. It’s bumpy, it’s soft and it’s fun to play with. It has been the perfect tool to entertain my kids when they were younger and now it helps my kids change gears when they are arguing or are complaining that they are bored. No doubt about it, the Gertie Ball is the best!
